Ferries to Atauro & Oecusse
Official passenger ferry timetable from APORTIL. Three vessels connect Dili with Atauro Island and the Oecusse enclave several times a week.

Sailings may be adjusted for weather, maintenance, or public-holiday timetables. Always confirm at the port the day before, especially during the wet season (Nov–Apr) when crossings are occasionally cancelled.

Three vessels, two routes
Each ferry has its own berth and ticket office. Tickets are sold the same day at the port; arrive early on weekends and around public holidays.

Overnight to Oecusse
The main APORTIL ferry on the Dili–Oecusse route, a roll-on/roll-off passenger ship with three seating classes (First, Business, Economy) and capacity for around 380 passengers and 30 vehicles. The overnight crossing departs Dili at 17:00 and arrives in Oecusse around 05:00.
Berlin Nakroma
Atauro Island workhorse
Carries passengers, motorbikes, and vehicles between Dili and Atauro four days a week, with morning departures from Dili and afternoon returns. The crossing takes roughly 2.5–3 hours each way.

RoRo ferry from Kolmera
An open roll-on/roll-off passenger and cargo ferry (around 360 passengers, plus vehicles and freight) serving both Atauro (Tue/Fri) and Oecusse (Sun/Wed out, Mon/Thu return). Tickets sold at the Kolmera office.

Both ports are on the Dili waterfront, but the locations are different. Double-check which ferry you are booked on.

A few things experienced travellers always do before boarding a Timor-Leste ferry.
Plan for the journey time
Dili–Atauro takes around 2.5–3 hours on Berlin Nakroma. Dili–Oecusse on Berlin Ramelau is an overnight crossing of roughly 12 hours, departing at 17:00 and arriving early morning.
Buy tickets at the port
Tickets are sold on the day of travel at the ferry office at each port. There is no online booking; cash in US dollars is required. Arrive at least 60 minutes before departure, more on weekends and public holidays.
No Monday Atauro ferry
The 2026 Dili-Atauro schedule has Success on Tuesday and Friday ($5) and Berlin Nakroma on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday ($4). There is no regular Monday Atauro ferry, and the Dragon Star fast ferry has been out of service since late 2025.
Bring water, snacks, and small bills
Onboard catering is limited or absent. Bring drinking water, snacks, and small notes. For the overnight Oecusse run, pack a warm layer, a power bank, and something to sleep on or against.
Sea conditions and seasickness
The wet season (Nov–Apr) brings rougher seas. If you are prone to motion sickness, take medication 30 minutes before boarding and choose a seat mid-ship on an outside deck.
Vehicles and cargo
All three ferries are roll-on/roll-off vessels and can carry motorbikes and vehicles. Berlin Ramelau handles up to around 30 vehicles for Oecusse; Berlin Nakroma and Success carry bikes and small vehicles to Atauro. Vehicle space is limited and priced separately. Speak to the port office a day or two ahead.
Sun protection
Crossings are exposed to strong tropical sun. Bring a hat, sunscreen, and a light long-sleeve layer, especially for the daytime Atauro runs on open-deck vessels.
Public holidays affect sailings
Around major public holidays (Restoration of Independence, Christmas, All Souls), timetables shift and ferries fill quickly. Travel a day early if possible.
