We did the Gruta Morutau trail with Mario, who was an excellent and personable guide. It was well worth it and we would have used Balibó Trails more if we had stayed longer. He can be contacted on WhatsApp and is very helpful though bear in mind that communications once in Timor can be challenging unless you have access to WiFi. Balibo is a wonderful place to visit and the Monday market was one of the highlights of our Timor Leste trip. Balibo is a must for anyone who wants to experience a magical place.

A great idea to get outsiders to get oriented with the Balibo hill and the communities in the vicinity. Cycles can rented just outside the Balibo Fort hotel. All new Cycles along with the safety gears are rented at a reasonable price. Owner of this facility is very friendly.

Well regarded local tour operator who offer a number of walking tours (see attached photo for details) and bike rental. Best contacted via WhatsApp in advance to organise things, or through Balibo Fort Hotel. Note that the email address on their website doesn't work...

We visited Balibo with family and friends in March 2022. We had the pleasure of taking two walking tours with Manino from Balibo Trails. Manino is a personable guide and his English skills are excellent. The Balibo walking tour and Duanele Cave tour were both very manageable with small children. We gained a greater understanding of the history of Balibo and surrounding villages, and would highly recommend Manino and Balibo Trails to anyone visiting Balibo.
