Kebijakan Privasi
Pembaruan terakhir: Maret 2026
1. Overview
The Ministry of Tourism and Environment of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste operates the official tourism portal at timorleste.tl. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you visit our website.
2. Information We Collect
Automatically collected:
- Browser type and version
- Operating system
- Pages visited and time spent
- Referring website
- Approximate geographic location (country/region level)
Voluntarily provided:
- Name and email address (via contact form)
- Message content (via contact form)
- Email address (via newsletter subscription)
- Email address, if you ask us to email you an itinerary, and, if you tick the box for them, to send you a few trip tips for that itinerary
- The questions you type into our travel assistant, and the answers it gives
3. Our Travel Assistant
This website offers an AI travel assistant and trip planner. So that we can see which questions it answers badly and improve both its replies and the information on this site, we keep a record of the questions asked and the answers given.
These records are not linked to your identity. We do not store your IP address, your browser details, or any account information alongside them. Conversations are grouped only by a random reference created in your browser.
Please do not type sensitive personal information — passport or identity-document numbers, payment-card details, or health information — into the assistant. It is a travel-information tool and does not need any of it. Your messages are also sent to our AI provider to generate a reply.
4. How We Use Your Information
- To respond to your enquiries and requests
- To send tourism updates and newsletters (with your consent)
- To send an itinerary you ask for and, if you tick the box for them, three trip-planning tips for it over about two weeks
- To analyse website usage and improve our content and services
- To understand visitor demographics for tourism planning purposes
5. Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors interact with our website. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect anonymous usage data. This data helps us improve the tourism information and resources we provide. For visitors in Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Timor-Leste, analytics is on by default. Everywhere else, analytics cookies are not set until you accept them in the cookie banner shown on your first visit. Wherever you are, you can accept or decline at any time with the “Cookie settings” link at the foot of every page; declining also removes the analytics cookies already set. You can also opt out of Google Analytics entirely by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Separately, the website keeps its own simple count of page visits without any cookie: the page, the country and the type of device, and, if you arrived from one of our advertisements, which one. On the page our advertisements link to, it also notes which parts of the page came into view. It records nothing that identifies you.
Service Providers
The Ministry of Tourism and Environment is the data controller for this website. Technical operation is provided under contract by OniT Enterprises, Lda (Timor-Leste), which develops and hosts the platform on its behalf. We use a small number of service providers to run the site: hosting infrastructure provided by Hetzner Online GmbH (servers located in the European Union), database and file storage provided by Supabase (hosted in the Asia-Pacific region, Singapore), transactional and newsletter email delivery provided by Resend, content delivery and security provided by Cloudflare, analytics provided by Google (Google Analytics 4, described above), and the AI model behind our travel assistant provided by Anthropic. These providers process data only as needed to deliver their services.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. We may share anonymised, aggregated data with government departments for tourism planning purposes. Personal information may be disclosed if required by law or to protect the rights of the Ministry.
7. Data Retention
Contact form submissions are retained for up to 24 months. Newsletter subscriptions remain active until you unsubscribe. An itinerary you email to yourself is sent once, and your address is not stored. If you ask for trip tips, your address is kept only until the last of the three tips is sent, or until you stop them with the link in any tip, and is then deleted. Travel-assistant conversation records are retained for up to 12 months and then deleted. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics default retention settings.
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Request access to personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your personal data
- Unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time
9. Security
We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Contact
For privacy-related enquiries, contact the Ministry of Tourism and Environment via our halaman kontak.
